Fabio Borini wants to leave Liverpool according to his agent

Fabio Borini’s agent has claimed the Liverpool forward feels like a “lion in a cage” at Anfield and says the player wants to leave the club this summer.

The Italian made just 12 Premier League appearances during last year’s campaign and his advisor Marco De Marchi says he is now looking to play more first-team football.

"Fabio wants a new experience," De Marchi told Italian sports newspaper Corriere dello Sport. "We expected more consideration from Liverpool.

"There are teams from all over Europe interested in him.

"Top clubs in Europe are keen on him, from the Premier League to the Bundesliga and there also clubs in Italy, but many clubs in Italy have had coaching changes and that has slowed things down.

"He has no preference, he just wants a team that gives him a clear chance to prove himself. Right now he feels like a lion in a cage."

Borini joined Liverpool in the summer of 2012 from Roma and has another season remaining on his contract with the Reds.

The 24-year-old scored seven goals in 25 league starts while on loan at Sunderland in the 2013/14 campaign.

Liverpool reportedly agreed a £12m fee with the Black Cats to sell Borini last summer but the player turned down a permanent move to Wearside.

"His current value is that given by Sunderland last year," De Marchi said. "However, that figure could be affected by the season he's had at Liverpool and the fact that in a year his contract runs out.

"For the time being, everything is on standby as the player is currently on his honeymoon but will
return shortly."
