An Abuja based company, Silon Concepts Limited, has dragged the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and two officials of its Presidential Campaign Organisation before an FCT High Court, Abuja for their refusal to pay for the outstanding sum of N70m, being balance for a campaign contract.

CBN Adjusts Forex Rate To N196.95 Per Dollar


Nigeria’s central bank adjusted its exchange rate peg to N196.95 to the dollar from the 197 it set in February after the currency’s value was eroded by the fall in oil prices, data on its website showed yesterday. The bank adjusted the rate at which it sold hard currency this week, dealers said, noting that the change was too small to be considered a revaluation for the naira, particularly in the face of dwindling foreign reserves.

Dealers said the central bank had been selling dollars to the inter-bank market at its adjusted rate. The naira was trading at 198.95 to the dollar on the inter-bank market and between 215 to 218 in the parallel market.

JTF seizes vessel laden with 1,500 metric tons of AGO in Bayelsa

The Joint Task Force (JTF) in the Niger Delta, Operation Pulo Shield, has impounded a vessel laden with 1,500 metric tons of illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil, an official said on Friday.

Lt. -Col. Ado Isa, spokesman of the JTF, told reporters at the task force’s headquarters in Yenagoa that the vessel registered as MV Europort, was seized at Foropa waterways in Bayelsa.

An Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun on Friday remanded a 23-year-old mother, Funmilayo Adeyanju, in prison custody, over alleged murder.

Adeyanju was arraigned for allegedly killing her son, Emmanuel Jumpy, aged 3, by stabbing him to death with a knife.

India’s Health Ministry on Friday ordered the removal of Nestle’s popular Maggi brand of instant noodles from stores across the country, saying the product had failed safety tests.

Nestle said that it would withdraw the product from Indian shop shelves in spite of stating the noodles were “safe to eat’’.

Suicide bombers ‘faked fight’ to attract onlookers

Two suicide bombers killed at least 31 people and injured 38 others in a crowded market in the northeast Nigeria city of Yola after faking a fight, police said Friday.

The bombers with explosives strapped to their bodies entered the Jimeta Main Market after sundown on Thursday and “pretended to be fighting”, said area police spokesman Othman Abubakar.

Man docked in Badagry over alleged theft of coke valued at N1,000

Death toll now 31 in Yola market blast – emergency official


At least 31 people were killed when an explosion ripped through a busy market in Yola, an emergency official said on Friday.

“So far, we have 31 dead victims and 38 people in hospital receiving treatment” as a result of Thursday’s blast, the National Emergency Management Agency’s coordinator in the city Sa’ad Bello told AFP.

“Some whose injuries were not severe were discharged,” he added.

15-year-old dies aborting 5-month pregnancy; lover docked

A 20-year-old man, Sodiq Sulaimon, yesterday appeared before an Ikeja High Court for allegedly procuring abortion for his 15-year-old lover (names withheld), who died in the process.

The defendant is facing a one-count charge of manslaughter brought against him by Lagos State Government, for which he pleaded not guilty.
