The mother of 16-year-old boy Lekan Isiaka, a victim of severe domestic abuse in the hands of his father, has rebuffed every attempt to get her involved in her son’s issue. Saturday PUNCH reported last week that Lekan suffered series of physical abuses in the hand of his father, Monsuru,which led him to have seizures and a dislocated shoulder.
Saturday PUNCH attempted to contact her through the phone number of her new husband, a furniture maker in Ibadan, to inform her about Lekan’s situation but the man, who would not identify himself, has only repeated that “she is out of town.”
The Enugu State Police Command on Saturday raided a “baby factory” and arrested nine pregnant girls in the process.
The operation, carried out by the 9th Mile Division of the Nigeria Police Force, took the police to a baby factory located within Etiti Amankwo Ngwo of 9th mile, Udi local government Area of Enugu state.
The factory is allegedly being owned and operated by one Ikechukwu Onoh of Etiti Amakwo Ngwo.

In line with this finding, most respondents (65 percent) were of the opinion that Nigerians do not live up to old age in recent times; with perceptions divided between ‘50 years or less’ and ‘70 years’ (26 percent each) as the current life expectancy in Nigeria. Although the World Health Statistics 2014 report published by the World Health Organisation (WHO) revealed that the life expectancy in Nigeria rose from 46 years in 1990 to 54 years in 2012.[1]
