Four Policemen Torture Woman Over Stolen Ipad.

A trader in the Balogun Market, Lagos State, Karamat Eleha, has accused four policemen attached to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Lagos State Command, of torturing her for allegedly stealing an iPad.

The device was said to be the property of a woman in the Ajah area of the state, who was robbed in May, 2015.

The policemen, led by one Abiola (aka Abbey), had, while searching for the iPad, reportedly stormed a two-storey building in Idumagbo, Lagos Island, where Eleha lives with her mother. It was learnt that she was not at home when the search commenced.

Residents Nab Man For Alleged Money Ritual (PICTURE)

A man accused of engaging in money ritual has been handed over to the police by residents of Iresi Street, in the Orile-Agege area of Lagos.

The suspect, who was identified only as Mohammed, was alleged to have moved around the area on Saturday, pretending to be mentally-challenged.

PUNCH Metro learnt that a woman, Mrs. Olawumi Alani, who sells confectionery, alerted her neighbour, Mrs. Grace Ogedengbe, to his presence.

It was gathered that Mohammed initially pretended he understood only Hausa and declined response when Alani requested to know who he was looking for.

Our correspondent learnt that he later confided in Ogedengbe, who also speaks Hausa, that he needed human parts and was directed to the area by a friend.

Alves signs new Barca deal

Dani Alves put an end to speculation about his future when he signed a two-year extension to his deal with recently-crowned European champions Barcelona on Tuesday.

The 32-year-old Brazilian defender's contract was due to expire on June 30, but he came to an agreement with Barca officials for the extension through to 2017, with the option of a third additional season.

Alves, who joined the Catalan club from Sevilla in 2008, has gone on to appear in 343 matches for Barca, more than any other foreigner in the history of the club.

During that time he has won 19 titles, including five La Ligas, three Champions Leagues, three Spanish Cups, two European Super Cups, four Spanish Super Cups and two Club World Cups.

Juventus sign Khedira from Madrid

Juventus moved to strengthen their midfield by signing Germany international and World Cup winner Sami Khedira from Real Madrid on a free transfer, the Italian champions said.

Khedira, 28, has agreed a four-year contract with the Champions League runners-up and will join the Turin club on July 1, Juve said on their website (www.juventus.com) on Tuesday.

"Khedira, who is normally deployed in front of the defence as a ball-winning midfielder, is able to cover a lot of ground while also possessing excellent passing and shooting ability and great vision of the game," Juve said..

Carver sacked by New Castle

John Carver has left Newcastle United following a five-month stint as manager of the Premier League club, according to British media reports on Tuesday.

Carver, 50, was promoted from his role as assistant when manager Alan Pardew left Newcastle for Crystal Palace in January, but a slump in form saw the club avoid relegation to the Championship by only a whisker.

Media outlets, including the Press Association and the BBC, reported that Carver has left Newcastle along with coach Steve Stone.

Newcastle are expected to appoint the former England manager Steve McLaren as the permanent successor to Pardew later this week.

Enrique extends Barcelona contract

Barcelona coach Luis Enrique, who led the Catalan giants to the treble in his first campaign in charge, has agreed to extend his contract with the Spanish side until June 2017.

"We have sealed the renewal of Luis Enrique's contract until 2017, so we will have Luis Enrique for two more years," Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu told a news conference.

Enrique capped his first season as Barcelona's head coach by matching Pep Guardiola's feat from the 2008/09 season when the Catalans captured the European, Spanish league and Cup titles.

"We are very happy, it could not be any other way. After a year in which we faced many difficulties but also had great results , we are more than excited and hope to win new titles," he said in a statement.

One of the suspect, who identified himself as Sunday Uzor, revealed that the gang’s mode of operation was to make their victim have a mild accident.

Lebanese arrested with cocaine in Lagos airport

A 23-year-old, Lebanese, Yve Awad, has been arrested by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, for allegedly attempting to traffic cocaine to Lebanon.

The suspect, who was arrested during outward screening of passengers on Middle East Airline flight at Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos, was caught with 260 grams of cocaine.

Bent joins Derby after leaving Villa

Aston Villa's record signing Darren Bent, released on a free transfer after four years, has signed for Derby County.

The 31-year-old spent the last four months of the season on loan at the Championship club, who missed out on a place in the promotion playoffs after finishing the campaign badly despite Bent's 12 goals in 17 appearances.

"Darren Bent is a proven goal-scorer and that was something he proved during his loan spell with the club last season," Derby's new head coach, Paul Clement, who has moved back to England from Real Madrid, told the club website (www.dcfc.co.uk).

"He is going to be key in our plans to move forward."

7 arraigned over N10m theft

Seven men have been arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrate Court for allegedly conspiring to steal several cartoons of milk valued at N10 million.

I left office broke, says former Rivers deputy gov

Former deputy governor of Rivers State, Engr Tele Ikuru, has said that he left office broke as he did not get any parting gift from his boss, former Governor Rotimi Amaechi, before they bowed out  on May 29 this year. 

Ikuru, who spoke in Andoni Local Government Area of the state, during a church service to thank God for his tenure, recalled that he served as deputy governor under former Governor Amaechi for seven years and seven months, adding that he also did five months under deposed Governor Celestine Omehia.

Continuing, he said former Governor Amaechi did not think he deserved a parting gift at the end of their tenure.

Fiorentina sack head coach Montella

Fiorentina have sacked head coach Vincenzo Montella after denouncing the Italian for a lack of respect and causing a breakdown in trust, the Serie A side said on Monday.

Montella took charge of Fiorentina in 2012, guiding them to three successive fourth-place Serie A finishes and the 2014 Coppa Italia final.

The 40-year-old former Italy forward also steered them to the semifinals of this season's Europa League where they were beaten by eventual champions Sevilla.

"ACF Fiorentina have judged the recent behaviour of coach Vincenzo Montella as the clear sign of his desire to break from a contract legitimately signed less than two years ago because it contains a clause which the coach no longer believes to be in his interest, but he agreed to at the time," the club said in a statement on their official website (www.fiorentina.it).

Australia not interested in Fifa events for now

Football Federation Australia (FFA) is refusing to bid to host any future global soccer events until there is systemic change at the world governing body Fifa, according to media reports on Tuesday.

Australia recently hosted the Asian Cup for the first time but failed to win the bid for the 2022 World Cup, which was awarded to Qatar with the FFA garnering just one vote in the process.

It had been considering a bid for the 2023 Women's World Cup but, after the corruption scandal that broke last month and has engulfed the world governing body since, the FFA said they would not be involved in any future bids.

"In the current volatile environment, FFA can give no consideration to bidding for any FIFA tournament," an FFA spokesperson told Australia's Fairfax Media.
