Buhari ‘ll deliver on campaign promises – Kumuyi

Appiah suffers cruciate ligament damage

 A cruciate ligament tear has ruled Kwesi Appiah out of Ghana’s Afcon 2017 qualifier against Mauritius.

The Crystal Palace forward who burst onto the scene and excelled in his early days as a Ghana international after head coach Avram Grant took him to the Nations Cup in Equatorial Guinea had received yet another invitation for the home qualifier on June 14.

Oscar Pistorius, the South African double amputee sprinter who shot dead his girlfriend, is scheduled to be freed on parole on August 21 after serving just 10 months in jail, officials said Monday.

The proposed release date provoked an angry reaction from the parents of model and television presenter Reeva Steenkamp, 29, who Pistorius shot on Valentine’s Day in 2013.

Liverpool confirm deal to sign Ings

Liverpool have agreed a deal to sign Burnley striker Danny Ings, the Premier League club announced on Monday.

"Liverpool FC are delighted to announce that they have agreed personal terms with Danny Ings and, subject to a medical, the striker will join the club on July 1 after his contract with Burnley has expired," the club said on their website (www.liverpoolfc.com).

Burnley confirmed the agreement on their website (www.burnleyfootballclub.com) but said they had rejected Liverpool's proposed fee.

Although Ings will be out of contract, Burnley are entitled to compensation for the 23 year-old, who joined them from Bournemouth four years ago.

Father strangles four daughters in Pakistan

A Pakistani man has murdered his four young daughters in the central province of Punjab, police said Monday.  The crimes occurred in Chak Jumra town, around 215 kilometres (135 miles) northwest of Lahore.  “Irshad Ahmed, a resident of Chak Jumra strangled his four daughters, two sets of twins, late Sunday night,” local police official Ghulam Shabir told newsmen.

Toure misses out on Nations Cup match


Midfielder Yaya Toure has been left out of Ivory Coast's squad for this weekend's African Nations Cup qualifier in Gabon because of injury, the Ivorian Football Federation said on Monday.

Toure had finished the season with Manchester City last month without any ill effects but the federation said he had suffered an injury without giving more details.

Interim coach Ibrahima Kamara is also without Yaya's brother Kolo Toure, who retired from the international game after Ivorian success in the Nations Cup in Equatorial Guinea at the start of the year.

The Ivorian squad for the trip to Libreville includes Wilfried Bony, Gervinho and Salomon Kalou, who were all part of the Nations Cup winning side in February.

Spanish police dismantle Nigerian voodoo-linked sex trafficking ring

Spanish police said Monday they had dismantled a trafficking ring they said used voodoo rituals — including animal sacrifice — to force Nigerian women into prostitution in Spain.

Six traffickers were arrested and four of the victims freed, police said in a statement.

Policemen Gun’s Down Tanker Driver For Giving Them N20 Instead Of N50 Bribe

The Bauchi State Police Command has apprehended three policemen over the death of a tanker driver in Ningi Local Government Area of the state.

According to Daily, the deceased was allegedly shot to death by one of the three policemen because he gave the cops N20, instead of the N50, they demanded for.

Two witnesses, Alhaji Sani Uba Ningi and MallamAminu, said when the driver refused to give the policemen the N50, they pursued him to Guduba village, four kilometers away from Ningi, where one of them shot him.

The Abuja Division of the Federal High Court is at the momen hearing an ex-parte motion seeking to disqualify Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila from emerging as the Speaker of the House of Representatives tomorrow.

Justice Abdul Kafarati is presiding over the suit which was lodged before the high court by the Registered Trustees of Social Justice and Civil Rights Awareness Initiative.

The group, in the suit filed pursuant to Order 26 Rule 8 of the Federal High Court Civil Procedure Rules, 2009, is contending that Hon. Gbajabiamila is not morally fit to head the third arm of governance in Nigeria, alleging that he was previously ‎”convicted in the state of Georgia for unethical practices and was debarred as a lawyer for 36 months”.

OPERATIVES of the Anti-kidnapping Unit of the Imo State Police Command have arrested a syndicate that specialized in stealing and child trafficking.

    The suspects, identified as Kelechi Nwogu (22) and Ebuka Ibe, also 22 years old, were arrested following a distress call by a concerned citizen.

    The state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Austin Evbakhavbokum, disclosed this while briefing newsmen on some of the arrests by his command recently.

Driver stabs policewoman to resist arrest

A 32-year-old driver, Samuel Adam, who allegedly stabbed a policewoman with a broken bottle, was arraigned on Monday in Lagos.

Adam, who resides at No. 33, Oshoro St., Papa-Ashafa, Agege, Lagos, is being tried at an Oshodi Magistrates’ Court on charges of breach of the peace and assault.

She also told the congregation that precious told her that she was fed with raw food and raw meet which made the Pastor of the church, Rev. A.S. Adekunle to order that the girl be taken to a medical centre on Old Akute Road for treatment.

All flags were flown at half-mast as Ghana began a 3-day national mourning for people who lost their lives through a huge fire at a fuel filling station and in floods in Accra on Wednesday.

President John Mahama announced the 3-day national mourning in an address after a National Crisis meeting of the National Security Council, in the wake of the disasters that have killed about 160 people.

CBN scam: Court fixes June 11 to hear bail applications

The Federal High Court, Ibadan, on Monday fixed June 11 for hearing the bail applications of 11 bank officials allegedly involved in the N8 billion CBN currency scam. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had arraigned Kolawole Babalola, Adeola Olaniran and Togun Phillips, dismissed employees of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and others on June 3.

CBNJoined also in the suit are five First Bank officials – Isiaq Akao, Ayodele Adeyemi, Oyebamiji Akeem, Ayodeji Alese and Ajiwe Adegoke. Others are Oni Dolapo, Afolabi Olunike (Mrs) and Ademola Adewale, who are employees of Wema Bank Plc.Justice Adeyinka Faji adjourned the two suits involving three CBN employees and eight members of staff of commercial banks, following the inability of the defence and prosecution to agree on processes filed, served and received.

President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday said that members of the Boko Haram sect neither know God nor believe in Him, promising that his Administration is totally committed to ending the group’s insurgency in the shortest possible time.

I Make, Sell Guns For N30,000 – Blacksmith

A 65-year-old blacksmith, Najim Bakare, who has been arrested by the Lagos State Police command, says he makes guns and sells them for N30,000 each.
