Ajayi signs for Cardiff City

Nigeria defender Semi Ajayi has signed a deal with Championship side Cardiff City until 2017 subject to international clearance.

The centre-back, released by Arsenal at the end of the season, has been on the fringes of the first team at the London side and was farmed out to Cardiff City on loan last season.

He was among the substitutes for three matches for the Gunners and appeared for Cardiff as a substitute in the final game of the season but has apparently done enough to convince Cardiff City to sign him on a permanent basis.

Ajayi, who was invited to the Super Eagles for the international friendly matches with Ivory Coast and Yemen in January, was also part of John Obuh’s Flying Eagles class of 2013 prior to the 2013 Fifa Under-20 World Cup in Turkey.

Per a statement made on their official website cardiffcityfc.co.uk, the club confirmed that the 21-year-old has put pen to paper for the club.

“Cardiff City can confirm that an agreement has been reached with Arsenal FC for the transfer of Semi Ajayi, subject to international clearance," the statement read.

The defender took to his Twitter handle (@semiajayi) to express his joy at joining Cardiff City while thanking Arsenal for the support shown to him during his time with the Gunners.

“Pleased to have signed for @CardiffCityFC. So excited to get playing and I look forward to contributing to the club's future success #CCFC.

“Thanks to everyone @Arsenal for everything. Spent an amazing two years there and I wish all those connected with the club the very best.”
