The Germany international is set to move to Turkish
giants Galatasaray, but his representative has revealed that the
Frenchman was keen to retain the 30-year-old.
Arsene Wenger wanted to keep Lukas Podolski at Arsenal but the forward is set to join Galatasaray, according to his agent.
The Germany international revealed on Wednesday that he is keen to complete a move to the Turkish giants, having spent the majority of last season on loan at Inter Milan and is expected to sign a four-year deal.
His representative, Nassim Touihri, says that Wenger attempted to convince Podolski to remain at the Emirates Stadium, but has confirmed a move is now imminent.
“We had very good talks with Wenger,” he told Bild. “He wanted to keep Lukas, but couldn’t give him a guarantee that he will be starter. That’s why we agreed on a transfer.”
Podolski has made 82 appearances for Arsenal since joining the club from FC Koln, scoring 31 goals.
