AHEAD of the expected inauguration of the 8th National Assembly Tuesday, by President Muhammadu Buhari, the police high command have beefed up security in and around the premises of the legislature.
The security measures, Vanguard gathered, is aimed at not only forestalling possible crisis during the event but also to ensure that the premises was safe for President Muhammadu Buhari, incoming lawmakers, as well as, other people that will be at the event.
This came as accreditation of senators-elect, members-elect, National Assembly workers, journalists as well as special visitors to the Tuesday’s inauguration, commenced and ended today.
Over 100 police personnel were seeing mounting security in strategic points just as all entries into the National Assembly premises were shut, leaving only one from the Federal Secretariat, accessible to all those expected for the accreditation exercise.
Some police personnel and men of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, were seen with sniper dogs in some strategic points even as anti-bomb disposal experts from the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Police Command, were not only seen scanning belongings of persons going into the premises but also combing different points in and around the premises, in order to ensure its safety.
